Invite Alexander Calder, an artist with work in MoMA’s collection, to your next poker or gin rummy game. This set of 52 cards is based on a set of vivid gouache paintings from the 1970s known as the Card Player series. Many of the cards are direct reproductions from those paintings, including the striped back on each of the cards. All of the letters and numbers are reproductions of Calder’s own handwriting. Because court cards were not included in the original images, the faces for the Jack, King and Queen were taken from another series of gouaches that Calder painted around the same period. The Alexander Calder Art of Play Playing Cards come in a box that measures 3.5h x 2.5w x 0.5"d.
